On it, around it, over it, about it, under it- learn all the different ways in which to best utilize your most sturdy on-stage friend, the chair. It’s not just for sitting, it’s for teasing. Learn how to move with it, learn how it doesn’t have to just sit still, and learn some fancy tricks to pull out of your glove in this 1-hour class. Please wear comfortable exercise clothing and a pair of low, sturdy, buckling heels.

FLOOR WORK & BOOTY POPPING w/ Porcelain

11am-12pm, $25

In this class, students will be getting down right dirty... in the sexiest & classiest way possible of course! Absolutely no amount of flexibility or dance experience is required, and all body shapes welcome! You don't need to be doing splits left and right to master the art of floorwork (though it certainly never hurts!). Students will learn how to master the art of leg work, creating sexy shapes with their bodies, and graceful ways of getting down and up off the floor. The second part of this class will address the ever popular, basic booty popping movement! Several variations of popping and shaking technique will be covered as well as one-cheek-at-a-time control. Bodacious booties will celebrate this class’s techniques in subtlety AND the full enchilada! Students should wear comfortable exercise type clothing and bring an open mind & sexy attitude!

Deanna Danger is Richmond’s only full-time, professional burlesque dancer. She has performed and produced all up and down the East Coast, in many different festivals, including the 2010 New York Burlesque Festival, as well as the 2012 1st Annual Pennsylvania Burlesque Festival in which she took home the top prize, the “Crystal Corset Award”! She is the headmistress of Virginia’s premier burlesque studio, Boom Boom Basics Burlesque & Performing Arts Studio and has been teaching the art of the tease since January 2010. And she produced the very first official burlesque show at Richmond’s historic art deco movie palace, The Byrd Theatre...and made it all happen in less than three years!

Deanna has put together the top knowledge in this class that you’ll need to make your mark in the world of burlesque. 

Whether you want to be a fixture in your local scene, or have your eyes set on festivals and beyond, this class is for you! Burlesque is about much more than the performance alone, and if you are looking to make a serious go at this art form, then you’ll want to bring plenty of pen and paper to this class! Everything from moving up from kitten to valued performer, social media, booking gigs, building your persona and business sense, and more will be covered! ACTING YOU ACT: STORYTELLING THROUGH BURLESQUE

w/ Ula Uberbusen

1-2:30pm, $25

Improve your act and make your performances unforgettable! Drawing on her extensive training in acting, theatre and dance, Üla teaches the art of storytelling through the medium of burlesque. Many great dancers do beautiful routines that are lacking that special “something” that make them extraordinary. Using techniques found in her mentor’s book, “The Actor As Storyteller,” this workshop focuses on acting and specificity of movement to form a clear narrative – skills that will put your act over the top. Please bring a notebook and wear clothes and shoes for comfortable movement.
